ABSTRACT

TEI has been an acclaimed encoding standard in the Humanities for decades. While considerable efforts have been made to adapt TEI for East Asian materials, significant barriers remain before serious philological encoding projects can be realized. In this talk, I will share my experiences introducing an area-specific writing convention—ruby annotations—into TEI and discuss its impact on East Asian digital philology and the TEI initiative.
