Overview
Schmidt Sciences, a philanthropic initiative created and funded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt, is launching a new program to support research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the humanities. The intended outcome of Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI) is to advance the scholarship being undertaken in the humanities through the use of AI-based technology for research.
Schmidt Sciences is currently seeking two-page concept papers describing visionary projects merging AI and the humanities that will lead to bold and innovative research, technology, datasets, methods, and/or applications of AI to humanities research questions. Selected concept papers will be invited to an inaugural conference of HAVI to be held September 11-13, 2024 at the University of Oxford. Selected workshop invitees will have their travel and lodging expenses covered by Schmidt Sciences.
Concept papers should anticipate a budget between USD $50,000 to $2 million to support a 3-5 year project.
